The group is based at Blacon  High  School  in Chester and, as Blacon High  School  Handbell  Ringers,  was formed in response to an appeal from the head teacher  to  raise funds for local charities.     Initially the group used borrowed bells and only operated at Christmas. After a few years the team became  affiliated  to  the  Handbell  Ringers  of  Great Britain as members of the North West Region,  obtained their own set of  American made Malmark  bells and soon began to perform concerts throughout the year.  The team is also a member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers - AGEHR.

Chester's Civic Service - May, 2000

Prince Charles who ,  as  Prince of Wales, is also the Earl of Chester.

In 1989  Blacon  Handbell Ringers  were very  honoured to welcome, as Patron of  the  team , His Grace,  the  Duke of Westminster.  Blacon  Handbell  Ringers  have made many overseas  concerts  tours  to the  United States of America, France/ Germany and Cyprus.
