On top of the Eiffel Towe
In July 1993, three weeks before the team was
due to leave for an American Concert Tour, Anthony, who lives in Middleton,
Manchester
and is a member of the St. Anne's Ringers Royton,
was drafted into the
team to replace a ringer who had unexpectedly left the Blacon team.
Although Anthony
did not know any of the Blacon Ringers he was soon accepted and became a very popular
member of the group. That was the beginning of an association which
continues to
the present day. Although he was a student at Hulme
Grammar School, Oldham,
Anthony was made an honorary member of the Blacon team and
was
given an Honorary Member Certificate by the head teacher of
Blacon High School at a school concert!
Anthony has accompanied the team on all their overseas visits
ever since. On many occasions he has stepped in to help when a
ringer has been ill. When he left school, after his A-levels,
to study for his degree and then to train as a Primary School
teacher it was f elt that his great contribution to the
team
should be recognised and he was invited to become the Honorary
Deputy Team Director. He has been active in this role and also
in his capacity of committee member and joint Newsletter Editor
for the North West Region of H.R.G.B. The BlaconTeam would like to
put on record their appreciation for all the help and support
which Anthony has given - in particular
by standing in when we have
been short of ringers.
During the past two years he has been actively involved in the
organisation of the National Rally at Liverpool University and has been instrumental
in the setting up of a new handbell team at Dean Row Primary School in Wilmslow. They
made their first public appearance at the North West Region 'Ring under Canvas' at
Flixton on 24th. September, where they gave a superb debut performance . Well Done!
We hope to see them at many more events.
